After firing up the bigger sections on the Clearwater we were checking and re checking levels of some of the biggest most notorious multi days in BC. A big storm damped our hopes of getting on anything. In BC low water just means low enough. Late one night to our surprise it looked like window was about to open on the legendary Homathko River. After busy day of packing and a sleepless night we re checked the gauge and began out 8 our drive to Tatlayoko Lake. At the put in we meet a group of German kayakers who saw the same window as us and were ready for the 4 day class 5 wilderness assault on Homathico.

A few fun facts on the river.
The last attempt in 2010 had a Heli evacuation due to a boat falling into the river. The previous attempt this season saw the whole crew of 5 being evacuated due to high water and we were next.

The Homathko is extreme wilderness, and the biggest mountain in flanks the Grand canyon of the Homathko making a hike out simply not an option.
The goals of the trip was to run the goods, not swim any circumstance, and avoid grizzly bears.

The trip went down without a hitch and is one of my top 3 favorite multi days in the world. World Class paddling, new friends, perfect flows and great weather made it a great end to the season in BC.

Highlights of the run include a 1.5 hour scout of a huge gorge then you had to put the pieces together, get in your boat and not screw up.

On our final morning I woke to Adrian whispering in my ear, “Lachie, grizzly bear”

Sure enough only 50m away from our tarp was a mother and a cub walking straight towards us. Definately a memorable way to wake up. These guys brought the Grizzly count to for the trip.

The trip was also so sweet because to paddle the Homathko you must paddle the sourse to sea, taking out at Homathko Camp a wilderness Camp on an inlet of the pacific Ocean, the Shuttle involves a float plate flying you back to Tatlayoko Lake where you paddled away from you Vehicle 4 days prior.

On this trip I made two new friends, Mattias from Norway and Jules from France, both super motivated highly skilled paddlers, I talked to them of my plans to fly to Mexico to run some waterfalls in the jungle, before we knew the plan had changed, the three of us would embark on a 5000 km plus drive to Veracruz. Mexico. Which is where I sit now. More adventures to follow.

So I completed the first solo Descent in 5 nights. It was the quickest descent as well!

No issue’s or drama’s just big long days on the water and some amazing rapids
